The West Concord Fire Department has served the community for nearly 130 years. With such a long legacy, the department has seen many changes. The department is witnessing a new change as Chad Finne steps down from his role as Fire Chief. Chief Finne has served as the Fire Chief in West Concord for 11 years. His journey with the West Concord Fire Department began 30 years ago when his pastor encouraged him to join the squad. Chief Finne was eager to join, and that passion has continued to motivate him to serve with the department. Chief Finne was born and raised in the West Concord community and says he enjoys being able to “help people I’ve known for a long time.” The city administration of West Concord says that Chief Finne has led with “professionalism, integrity, and compassion. He strengthened training, promoted innovation, and focused on safety and teamwork.” Chief Finne will continue to serve on the department even as he steps down from his leadership role. The department extends its sincere appreciation for his years of service and his continued passion and commitment on the front lines.
Incoming Fire Chief Rick Braithwaite has been a part of the department since 2014. Chief Braithwaite says he has always been dedicated to “community involvement,” participating in 4-H and FFA. He says that when he first joined the squad, he received a warm welcome from the community. He is eager to serve in this role. The city administration says, “Chief Braithwaite brings energy, new ideas, and a passion for service.” Chief Braithwaite looks forward to the future growth of the department. He says, “there is nothing I will have our members do that I will not do myself. It is important to show everyone they are seen and appreciated for the time they give up with their families to serve our community.” Chief Braithwaite enters this role with focus and determination. He says, “My goal is to make sure our members have the tools, training, and leadership they need to succeed.” He is passionate about serving others and investing in the community.
Community support is vital for local fire departments. Volunteers are critical to helping the department respond to needs in the community. The West Concord department welcomes new members to the team. Assistant Chief Jake Froyum says joining the team is a “great way to help the community.” In addition to joining the squad, community members can support the West Concord department by attending their fundraisers. The fire department hosts 4 fundraisers throughout the year. The department invites the community to join them for Burger Night on May 16th from 5-7 pm. Funds raised at these events help to purchase the necessary equipment and support community initiatives.
