Final Round of Trees Planted in West Concord

On Saturday, April 26 members of the community planted the final round of trees as part of the 3-year “Protect Community Forests by Managing Ash for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Grant” on public land.

This 3-year grant was provided by the State of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources through the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund. With the contribution of in-kind donations, volunteer labor and a small city contribution, the grant totaled in the amount of $82,877.86! The city also received Tree Steward assistance from the University of Minnesota and Tree Trust.

As you can see from the below results a huge thank you goes out to all our volunteers and city staff for making this all happen!

• A grand total of 134 Trees Planted!

o 2023- 30 Trees Planted

o 2024- 50 Trees Planted

o 2025- 54 Trees Planted

• A total of 47 Infected Ash Trees Removed.

A diverse Species of trees planted to resist future disease issues, selected for our growing area, and conditions:

American Red Plum, Hackberry, Skyline Locust, Snowdrift Crabapple, Swamp White Oak, Yellowwood, American Alder, Autumn Brillance Serviceberry, Bur Oak, Bitternut Hickory, Eastern Redbud, Ironwood, Kentucky Coffee Tree, Princeton Elm, Red Oak, Redmond Linden, River Birch, Shagbark Hickory, Thornless Cockspur Hawthorn, Beech, Ginko, Ohio Buckeye, Pin Oak, and Starlight Crabapple.

As a result, instead of a decimated urban tree canopy West Concord shall have a flourishing one! Thank you volunteers for continuing to keep West Concord having “A Proud Heritage, A Bright Future!”
