On Wednesday, May 6th five Triton seniors were honored in a ceremony at the Triton Performing Arts Center for their intentions to pursue a path to become educators. High School Principal, Mrs. Fox welcomed them and each student gave a short introduction to themselves and what made them choose this path. This is the third year that Triton has held an educator signing day and is also the largest number of students to participate. Ali Horesji was thanked for organizing the event.
Patience Buenvenida credited Mrs. Wotherspoon as her influential teacher who helped her decision to become an educator. She also got some practical experience working at Early Advantage Daycare. She will pursue a career an education at RCTC in Rochester in Early Childhood Education. She became interested in the field when she started looking at a healthcare nursing direction.
Kerisma McMahon also credited Mrs. Wotherspoon as her influential teacher. She is pursuing a career in Early Childhood Education – Special Ed at Winona State University. Kerisma is the oldest of seven children and is looking forward to teaching young children with disabilities.
Mason Noaeill will be working towards a secondary Social Studies Education at the University of Minnesota – Mankato. He named Mr. Hanegraaf as his influential teacher along with Mr. Neseth in whose class he got educational experience in. He has always had an interest in in history classes and is looking forward to helping people through education.
Alan Ortiz will be attending Hamline University to become a secondary social studies educator. His influential teacher is Mr. Storlie. Alan was a student teacher for a ninth grade class last year and states that he wants to teach the subject he loves to others.
September Wilson will be attending Winona State University to earn a degree in Secondary English Education. She named her influential teacher as Mrs. Ryg. September was involved in theater as a stage manager under Mrs. Wotherspoon. She is following her grandmother as a student at WSU.
They closed the ceremony with a quote, “Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.”
