House Fire Destroys Local Home

Posted

Thursday Marsh 12, a neighbor's phone call informed the Brasher family, who were out of town at the time, that their house was on fire. The fire has left their home uninhabitable and has nearly destroyed all their contents. This family has a long history with our community.

Heidi (Sogge) grew up in Kasson, the daughter of Truman and Sue Sogge, who many will remember from Zwemke Music, piano lessons, piano tuning, piano restoration, and as members of the Sounds of Praise Quartet.

After graduating from Kasson High School, Heidi attended Northwestern University in St. Paul and taught in Kasson after graduating.

Heidi met Brian after a Southern Gospel group sang at the First Baptist church in Kasson. They were married in 2004 and moved to Mississippi, Brian's home.

Brian, a talented singer and worship leader, ministered in Adaton Baptist Church. When Pops, Truman Sogge, started having some health issues in December 2019, the family uprooted their life and moved to Kasson, to a house across the street from the Apartment Building where Truman was living. The past 5-plus years have been a blessing for Heidi's children, allowing them to get to know, love, and make music with Truman. Truman passed away in January of this year.

Heidi and Brian jumped into worship at First Baptist Church, where Heidi grew up. Heidi has welcomed the music-teaching role in the community, giving private lessons, working with Home School Co-ops, and, most recently, starting her own organizational business. Brian worked at Culligan, but most know him as an integral part of Hardware Hank in Kasson, where he assists with sales and customer service. The family is also a big part of Cowboy Church, held once a month in Kasson, and other community events. Heidi and Brian have three children, Ellie, Gibson, and Judah.

A fire destroys more than stuff. One's home is where you talk about your day, laugh and cry about things that have happened, and where one feels safe. That's gone now for the Brasher family. They need to find a new place to live and begin rebuilding their physical home here. It's true, it's just stuff, but we need stuff to cook with, eat on, put on so we are appropriately dressed, and have a place to sit to do homework, snuggle up for a movie or just have a cup of coffee in "your own space."

There is a GoFundMe page for the Brasher family. https://gofund.me/6ce8ad1e7
