Every Friday morning, as the sun rises over Triton Public Schools, a group of students are busy brewing up more than just coffee. They are brewing confidence, social skills and job readiness for themselves–and caffeine for the staff of course.
The Coffee Cart is a little operation that is run by students with special needs in the Elementary School, with the assistance of Triton High School. These students are delivering caffeine to the working teachers and staff, but also serving up vital life skills.
As the cart wheels down the hallway, the students are not only delivering coffee and treats but also smiles and giggles. It has been frequently heard throughout the halls as the students enter into the different classrooms “Oh yeah…its’ my favorite day of the week…Coffee Cart day!” For the staff it has become a beloved “perk” to their teaching jobs. This has been an inaugural year, but we have had great success and look forward to continuing on with this in the future.
