The Triple "A" Award, which stands for academics, arts, and athletics, is a Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) recognition for high school seniors excelling in academics (3.0+ GPA), sports, and fine arts/activities. This award was made to honor student leaders. The seniors eligible for Triple A awards got an email from the school, which had a Google application that they needed to fill out. The committee read over everyone's answers on the forms and chose who to select for the nomination. This year, Rainey Dobbs and Henry McMartin won and were chosen to represent our school in the MSHSL Triple-A awards.
Winning the triple A award is a huge honor, and when asked her feelings on winning the award, Rainey said, “I feel very worthy of the award because I have worked very hard at the things I participate in. This was a goal of mine for a long time, and I am very happy to have received this award.” When Henry was asked the same question, he responded similarly, stating, “I am happy to be chosen to receive this award. I am proud that all the effort I have put into my sports, academics, and arts has been noticed.” As part of applying for this award, they had to get a letter of recommendation from a teacher of their choice. Both Rainey and Henry chose different teachers for different reasons. Rainey said she chose Mrs. Hammitt because “She is someone I have looked up to since the moment she came to Triton. I look at her and see myself… Her teaching and coaching have left a huge impact on my life… She has changed the way I look at life, and she isn’t just a great coach, math teacher, she’s a great person who shines her light on others.” Henry chose Mr. Storlie for different reasons, but he chose him because “I feel that he has always supported and pushed me to do my best in football and school. I greatly respected him as a teacher, coach, and friend, and I am very grateful to know him.” Both of these teachers have made an impact on Rainey and Henry in different ways.
This award is a huge honor for anyone who gets nominated. Rainey and Henry are very hard-working students, singers, and athletes. They put 100% in everything they do, which shows to the teachers and staff around them. Triton High School is very proud of both students for winning the award and honoring our school.
