With winter over, Triton High School’s spring sports season is underway. For the Trap team, success comes down to the shooters themselves. Senior Henry McMartin and freshman Urijah Giesler shared their experiences and goals.
Henry has been trap shooting since 7th or 8th grade and hunting since he was ten. “My dad and both of my grandpas got me into shooting,” he said, recalling hunting trips and watching old Westerns as a kid. His favorite memories with the team? “Competing every day to see who shoots the best, along with the Anne Oakleys on the last day.” His advice to new shooters: have confidence, shake off misses, find your zone, and focus on yourself. On competing in Alexandria this year, he said, “Practice at home and just shoot the best I can. In other words: lock in.”
Freshman Urijah Giesler got interested in shooting through family and hunting. His goal is a perfect score—he came close at the first team meeting on March 29, hitting 44 out of 50. Like many freshmen, he focuses on his own performance without relying much on upperclassmen. Urijah is eager to compete in Alexandria this season.
