Barbara Ann DeMars, age 66, was called home after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by family on September 7, 2024.
Friends may greet the family from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, MN) and one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Friday, September 13, 2024, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home.
Barb was born to parents Lloyd and Doris (Schuler) Kern in Owatonna. She was raised in West Concord, MN, and graduated from Medford High School in Medford, MN, with honors. Barb attended Faribault Vocational School studying business administration. In 1981, Barb married Alcid DeMars at Christ the King Church in Medford. She then began a 25-year career at K & G manufacturing in Faribault. For a short time, Barb and Alcid lived in Arizona while their daughter Theresa attended college. When they moved back to Minnesota, Barb worked at Sciencix in Burnsville, MN, until she retired.
Barb and Alcid enjoyed camping up north for many years in Sherwood Forest near Garrison, MN. She was always ready to play cards with friends and family. Alcid will miss playing cribbage with Barb in the mornings. Barb loved to go shopping with her granddaughters. But most of all, she enjoyed her family, especially her granddaughters and great-grandson and was eagerly awaiting the birth of her second great-grandson. Barb was a kind and giving person.
Barb is survived by her husband of 43 years, Alcid; daughter Theresa (Scott) Ihrke; granddaughters: Samantha Ann Ihrke, Jasmine (Jonny) Hernandez, and Isabel Ihrke; great-grandson, Sabastyan Michael Hernandez, and one great-grandson on the way, Malakai Adam Hernandez; siblings Jerry (Linda) Kern, Marilyn (Trish Moudry) Kern, Darold (Bonnie) Kern, Allen (Bonita) Kern, and Carol (Mal Galusha) Olson.
She was preceded in death by her son, Adam, and her parents.
